Your Midyear Money Reset- Reflect, Reset, Recommit

Let’s be honest: a lot can happen in six months. You might’ve paid off a credit card, made a big purchase, switched jobs- or just tried your best to stay afloat. Wherever you’re at, this is your invitation to pause and check in.

Here is how to do a simple midyear money reset that will actually move you forward.

Step 1: Reflect.

Let’s pause and take inventory of where you are.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I  proud of from the last six months?
  • What habits are helping (or hurting) my progress?
  • Are my goals still aligned with the life im living right now?

Reflecting helps to build awareness. You need to know where you stand before deciding where to go next. And don’t forget to celebrate the wins, even the small ones.

Step 2: Reset.

Time to make some small tweaks to keep moving you forward.

  • Does your budget reflect your actual lifestyle today?
  • Are you saving too aggressively or maybe not enough?
  • What extra or surprise expenses are going to come up over the next few months?

Take a few minutes to pull up your plan, take out your budget, grab your spreadsheet. Adjust your strategy or your budget based on your answer to these questions. This is where having a financial coach to provide some outside perspective, structure and strategy could keep you from getting stuck.

Step 3: Recommit:

Revisit your “why” and pick one goal to carry you through the rest of the year.

  • Do you need a new goal or can you refocus on one from the start of the year?
  • Are you spreading yourself too thin and trying to do too many things at once?
  • Do you still feel connected to your motivation for improving your finances?

Having a good plan only goes so far if you aren’t sticking to it. We are half way through the year and there is no better time to recommit to your goals and make sure the next six months are as successful or more successful than the last six.
